Lab processing of materials can be a source of variation in experiments, as well as tedious and time consuming. Working with colleagues (Nicholas Ostrovsky-Snider, PhD, Fabio de Ferrari, M.S.), I helped to develop a low cost automated system to reduce time to process aqueous proteins from raw to pure aqueous solution. We combined off the shelf conductivity probes (Atlas Scientific) with a Raspberry pi + touch screen with a user-controllable gui to progress through the various stages of protein desalting and recovery through dialysis, validated by GPC HPLC/SDS-PAGE, pH, and density.
